Hugh Jackman confirms he’s done with Wolverine.
And not even a deal between Fox and Marvel would convince him otherwise.
It’s no secret that Hugh Jackman is no longer playing Wolverine in the X-Men movies. Before the release of Logan, Jackman himself revealed that he felt it was time for him to move on from the iconic comic book character… and although fans will miss him, he definitely, absolutely wouldn’t be coming back.
But could Disney’s potential purchase of 20th Century Fox change things?
During an interview with Collider, the iconic X-Men actor confirmed that no – he won’t be returning as Wolverine, despite how cool it would be to team up with The Avengers.
“I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me,” he said. “But for someone else I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
Of course, the sad part about all this is that Hugh Jackman has long campaigned for the X-Men and Avengers to team up on the big screen. It’s one of the major things he pushed for before his final Wolverine outing in Logan.
But now, it looks as though he won’t be around to do it himself.
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together,” he explains. “And every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, ‘Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,’ and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline – it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously – I was like, ‘Hang on!’
Does that mean we won’t be seeing Wolverine alongside The Avengers?
Of course not. Since his appearance in the first X-Men movie, the character has proved to be a hugely popular one… and just because Hugh Jackman won’t be around to play him, doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Wolverine.
It’s just likely going to be someone different wielding those Adamantium claws.
