Hugh Jackman Talks Wolverine Sequel

Hugh Jackman discusses rumours that Patrick Stewart will be back.

February 14, 2015 by Ryan Leston

X-Men Wolverine Hugh Jackman

After rumours that Patrick Stewart will star in the upcoming Wolverine sequel, Hugh Jackman discusses the relationship between Logan and Professor X.

During an interview with MTV News, the 46-year-old Wolverine addressed those juicy X-Men rumours… but unsurprisingly, he really can’t say much.

“Let’s just say I’d be thrilled if he was part of it,” he said. “I think that relationship is key [to the X-Men franchise] – it’s one of the keys. It was the key in the beginning and I think there’s a long way to go.”

X-Men: Apocalypse Won’t Star Patrick Stewart

Obviously, this is far from confirmation that Patrick Stewart will be in the next Wolverine movie… but I can’t help thinking that Jackman is desperate to dodge the question, and knows a lot more than he’s letting on.

My gut feeling? This is as close to a confirmation as we’re likely to get, at least for the time being. And it seems as though it’s all pointing to Professor X appearing alongside Wolverine.

But what about the overall story? Will we see some familiar plotlines for Logan’s next story?

“It does draw on some comic book stuff,” he said about the upcoming Wolverine sequel. “There are some things, but in typical fashion… sort of, one main one and opening it up… Jim and I have been talking about it – he has a treatment. We’re a way out from it, but we’re in really good shape with it. I’m really, really excited about it.”

Of course, the next Wolverine movie is a long way off… and if director James Mangold only has the treatment of it, then we’re still waiting on the script to be written in full. But I can’t help thinking that Patrick Stewart is a done deal. And that could be the best kind of superhero buddy movie we’ve seen.

As for what will happen, there’s already been much speculation… and the idea of Old Man Logan being brought to the big screen seems to be a fan favourite.

But will it turn out like that? For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Do you think Patrick Stewart will appear in the Wolverine sequel? What would you like to see happen? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
