Hugh Jackman may soon be playing Wolverine for the last time… as he hints that the upcoming sequel to The Wolverine may be his final X-Men movie.
It’s no secret that Hugh Jackman can’t play Wolverine forever… as much as we’d like him to. After all, while Wolverine’s healing factor has practically stopped him ageing, the same can’t be said of Jackman. But when will he give up the role?
Sadly, it seems that day may be edging closer…
Appearing on Instagram, the 46-year-old X-Men actor hinted that his next outing as Wolverine will probably be his last.
Of course, his message is rather vague… and it’s left fans wondering – what does ‘one last time’ actually mean?
It stands to reason that Hugh Jackman will at least stick around for James Mangold’s highly anticipated sequel to The Wolverine. After all, he’s already signed up for the movie, and has shown great enthusiasm for the project in recent interviews.
But that film doesn’t head to cinemas until 2017 and is expected to begin filming sometime next year…
Has Hugh Jackman really been fitted for his new claws so early?
Or is this our first indication that Jackman has pulled out of the Wolverine sequel?
At this stage, anyone’s guess is as good as ours… but with Wolverine presumably headed for a cameo appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse, I can’t help wondering whether this is actually going to be his final appearance.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time a major star has said it would be their final film, only to then appear several times more. Robert Downey Jr, for example, has claimed to be leaving Iron Man behind him on a number of occasions.
But is Hugh Jackman serious? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it’ll be a sad day for comic book movie fans when he eventually hangs up his claws.
