After announcing a new Static Shock digital series, it looks as though Warner Bros. may have found their man – none other than Jaden Smith.
It’s no secret that DC are on a roll lately when it comes to their upcoming superhero slate. And after announcing a whole raft of movies up until 2020, it looks as though they’re also setting their sights on the digital market. Announcing a new series based on Static Shock, it looks as though DC fancies their chances against Marvel’s recently announced Netflix series’.
And now Jaden Smith has been attached to the title role.
According to a report at Flickering Myth, the 16-year-old actor (and son of Will Smith) is being eyed for his first superhero role.
“We’re getting word that Warner Bros. is already eyeing a young actor to play the electric DC superhero: Jaden Smith.”
Of course, he’s already turned heads for all the wrong reasons with the critically-panned After Earth – a vanity project that he starred in, alongside his father. But with Jada Pinkett Smith appearing in a starring role in TV’s Gotham and Will Smith reportedly being eyed for Suicide Squad, it looks as though DC comic book projects could soon become a family affair.
At the tender age of 16, he’s already appeared in a number of big budget movies, including The Pursuit of Happiness, The Day The Earth Stood Still and the recent remake of The Karate Kid. But after M. Night Shyamalan’s After Earth, it seems he’s been keeping a low profile… and perhaps that’s for the best.
But could a role like this reinvigorate his short career?
It’s certainly a step in the right direction, and with a foot in the Warner Bros. door, this could always lead to bigger and better things. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
