James Spader’s Ultron has finally been revealed in the official Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser trailer… and after some rather disturbing scenes, the man himself claims that Ultron is nothing less than ‘batshit crazy’.
It’s certainly been assumed for some time that the classic Marvel villain is likely to have some… daddy issues. After all, he’s sentient robot rebelling against his creator in order to destroy the human race. But that might just be the tip of the iceberg as James Spader comments on his state of mind.
In an interview with Total Film, the 54-year-old actor revealed that Ultron perhaps isn’t quite right in the head… but what’s gone wrong?
“Ultron takes abrupt turns in scenes.” He explained. “Yes, he is psychopathic. He’s really batshit crazy!”
Obviously, that’s already evident from the rather awesome Age of Ultron trailer. But that’s apparently just one aspect of the killer robot.
“There’s a humorous aspect to him, which is something that drew me in from the very first conversation I had with Joss [Whedon],” he explained. “In many ways he’s a child, this character, because he’s a brand new being who’s just come to be. And yet, through artificial intelligence, he has an incredible capacity for knowledge. So he’s a very powerful, smart child.”
Of course, Spader’s allusions to Ultron’s childlike state of mind definitely rings a bell… after all, the new trailer is set to a rather creepy rendition of Pinocchio’s ‘I’ve Got No Strings’. But will Geppetto be able to take control of his creation?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, the Avengers won’t be the same again.
