After the colossal success of Furious 7 it looks as though director James Wan may head up a comic book movie – none other than Aquaman.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it looks as though Warner Bros. are rather keen to get him on board… and are currently pursuing the director.
“James Wan could go from racing on the streets to riding the currents of the ocean blue,” they revealed. “The director, hot off the smash opening of his Furious 7 is the frontrunner to direct Aquaman, Warner Bros. water-borne superhero movie centering on classic DC Entertainment character.”
The 38-year-old director is perhaps most famous for writing and directing the ground-breaking horror flick, Saw. And has since gone on to helm Insidious, The Conjuring and the recent doll-shaped horror, Annabelle.
But after taking on the Fast and Furious franchise, it seems he also has a penchant for action… and this is likely what’s spurred on Warner Bros. to initiate talks with the hit director.
“Wan has no offer at this stage but he is the studio’s choice,” they revealed. “And some preliminary talks have taken place.”
Of course, if James Wan accepts, this would mark his first foray into comic book movie territory… but I can’t help thinking he’s a rather excellent choice. He’s already proved to be more than competent when it comes to big set pieces, and let’s not forget that he was also rumoured to head up Shazam – the DC superhero film starring Fast & Furious alumni, Dwayne Johnson.
But will James Wan take on Aquaman?
There are already plans in motion for an eighth instalment in the Fast & Furious series… but while it’s unknown whether or not Wan will return for the picture, it may have quite an impact on his schedule if he does.
Either way, it looks as though we’ll have to wait and see. But it seems that suddenly James Wan is rocketing to dizzy heights amongst the Hollywood elite.
Aquaman heads to cinemas on 27 July 2018.
