Indiana Jones 5 may not have been officially announced yet, but it looks as though it may have nabbed a cinematographer – Janusz Kaminski.
The 55-year-old Oscar-winning cinematographer has found himself rather casually attached to the much-rumoured Indiana Jones sequel… but is it really happening? After recent work on The Judge it looks as though his schedule has opened up a bit. But with no official word on whether there will even be an Indiana Jones 5 is this our first hint at an Indy sequel?
In an article at Variety, it’s revealed that Kaminski is taking part in an online filmmaking course… and it seems they may have let the cat out of the bag when it comes to his latest project.
“Kaminski has made more than a dozen films with Steven Spielberg, earning two Oscars along the way,” they explain. “His credits include ‘Schindler’s List,’ ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and ‘The Diving Bell & the Butterfly.’ His next project is the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie.”
Of course, it’s no surprise that Kaminski should find himself working on the next Indiana Jones movie. After all, he’s a frequent collaborator of legendary director, Steven Spielberg. But will Kaminski act as a cinematographer, or is he on board to direct?
It’s no secret that Kaminski has recently stretched himself into the world of directing with the 2011 movie American Dream amongst others. And if Spielberg isn’t interested in joining up with the house of mouse, perhaps Kaminsi would be the ideal substitute.
But does this mean that the next Indy film is already on the cards?
Unfortunately, there’s no direct quote from Kaminski on the matter… but one thing’s for certain – this has definitely stoked a fire under the rumours of an upcoming Indiana Jones sequel.
Obviously, it makes a lot of sense. I mean, since Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, they’ve been more than happy to push forward on a number of new projects, really making the most of their investment. Would they really allow a huge franchise such as Indiana Jones just sit there untouched?
