Jay Hernandez In Talks For Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad adds Jay Hernandez in a super-powered role. But who will he be playing?

20th February 2015 by Ryan Leston

Suicide Squad

Although Suicide Squad has already assembled the team, it looks as though Jay Hernandez has landed a role. But who will he play?

According to The Wrap, the 36-year-old Hostel actor is being pursued for an undisclosed role in the upcoming comic book movie.

“Jay Hernandez is in negotiations to join the cast of Warner Bros.’ comic book adaptation Suicide Squad,” they revealed. “Representatives for Warner Bros. and Hernandez did not immediately respond to requests for comment.”

Unfortunately, it’s unclear what his role might be… and it seems that WB is keen to keep us in the dark.

“Hernandez’s role is being kept under wraps, but it’s possible that he could be playing an inmate on the same cell block as The Joker, though there are several other open roles at this time.”

But the folks over at the Latino Review think they’ve already uncovered his role.

“Found out who Jay Hernandez is playing in #SUICIDESQUAD,” said Umberto Gonzalez via Instagram. “Chato Santana aka EL DIABLO. It is a small role, no more than a cameo in the film. He is a prisoner being held in the super powered criminal part of the prison with (rumored) KILLER FROST, BLOCK BUSTER, KING SHARK, & LIVE WIRE amongst others. #DC #DCCU”

Of course, Chato Santana is a member of the Suicide Squad in DC’s New 52 – a former criminal who meets Lazarus Lane (the earlier El Diablo) after ending up hospitalized. But will El Diablo really appear in the ‘Suicide Squad’ movie?

It’s certainly believable – after all, Belle Reve will likely house a number of other villainous inmates aside from the Suicide Squad. And it makes sense to showcase some other potential villains who could appear throughout later DC movies.

Batman’s Role In Suicide Squad Revealed?

But will El Diablo ever join the Squad? That’s another matter entirely…

Either way, DC’s Suicide Squad is really starting to take shape. And with a number of other DC villains rumoured to appear, we might just be introduced to the entire rogue’s gallery. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Suicide Squad heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.

Do you think El Diablo will appear in ‘Suicide Squad’? What about those other DC villains? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
