Fan favourites Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are up for the leading roles in a new sci-fi movie – Passengers.
According to Variety, two of Hollywood’s hottest actors are being courted for the upcoming sci-fi flick, helmed by Morten Tyldum – director of The Imitation Game.
“Jennifer Lawrence is in early talks to star in Sony’s space drama Passengers, with The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum to helm,” they explained. “Jon Spaihts, writer of Doctor Strange, is penning the script. Sony bought rights to ‘Passengers’ in December.”
The sci-fi romance Passengers is set in the future on a spacecraft carrying thousands of passengers on an interstellar voyage to a new planet. When one passenger awakens from hypersleep 90 years before everyone else, he awakens a female passenger to accompany him. And what results is a sci-fi romance…
“Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur will produce through Moritz’s Original Film banner along with Michael Maher for Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.”
Presumably, Pratt and Lawrence are up for the leading roles… and considering their box office prowess and fondness for genre films, they might just be the perfect fit for the film.
Of course, Jon Spaihts’ script has appeared at Black List for some time… and at one point, Keanue Reeves and Amy McAdams were tipped to take the starring roles.
It’s said that this version of the script has long been passed up… but after Sony purchased the rights late last year, it looks as though they’re ready to push forward into production.
It certainly sounds like an interesting start… and if Lawrence and Pratt are convinced to jump on board, we could well be in for a rather epic new sci-fi movie. But with Lawrence and Pratt heading up some pretty hefty slates over the next couple of years, they may be forced to pass.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But let’s keep our fingers crossed.
