Jennifer Lawrence won’t be playing shape-shifting mutant Mystique after X-Men: Apocalypse… as she confirms this will be her last X-Men movie.
During an interview with MTV News, the 24-year-old actress revealed that Apocalypse will be her last appearance as Mystique.
“It is my last one, actually,” she said, with no further explanation.
So it looks as though any hopes of a Mystique solo film have been firmly dashed…. At least, with Jennifer Lawrence in the title role.
But does this mark the end for Mystique?
Although it’s certainly not the end of the Marvel franchise, it’s starting to look as though certain fan favourites may not make it through the events of Apocalypse in one piece. After all, Lawrence isn’t the first mutant to admit it’s their final film…
In a recent interview, Nicholas Hoult revealed that he’s also come to the end of his contract. And while we wondered whether or not contracts would be renewed, I can’t help thinking we might see some of our favourite X-Men meet a rather sticky end.
Of course, Jennifer Lawrence began playing her younger version of Mystique in X-Men: First Class back in 2011, reprising the role for last year’s Days of Future Past.
And it seems her final stint as Mystique will be in Apocalypse which is out next year.
But will Fox recast the role or replace Mystique entirely?
We’ve already confirmed that Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm will return as their younger selves… and this could be the perfect time to switch out the X-Men roster.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
Should Jennifer Lawrence sign on for more X-Men movies? Could Mystique really be recast? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
