It’s official – Lex Luthor will be bald in Batman V Superman. But now Jesse Eisenberg discusses what it’s like to go bald for the first time.
During an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the 31-year-old DC villain revealed what it’s really like to go bald for the role of Lex Luthor.
“I’ve never been able to touch my scalp,” he said of cutting his hair for the first time. “Yes it’s freezing. It’s really strange. You know, it’s the kind of thing where you feel like ‘I can really damage myself.’ You wanna wear a helmet. It’s terrifying, it’s terrifying.”
Of course, Eisenberg is usually known for his shaggy, unkempt barnet… and so this is quite a dramatic change when it comes to the Lex Luthor role.
But was it all worth it?
I can’t help thinking the images speak for themselves… and he looks rather subtly menacing as the iconic Superman villain. It’s certainly a long way from the alternating hair styles of Gene Hackman in the 1978 classic, Superman: The Movie. And while many speculated at Eisenberg’s look, it seems that Snyder and co. were able to keep him under wraps until the very last minute.
“Everything is like shrouded in secrecy and the people are shrouded in bandannas,” he said about being on set. “You know, Superman, Henry Cavill, in like baggy sweatpants.”
It may seem like a rather unconventional approach, but it definitely paid off. The recent reveal of Jesse Eisenberg’s chrome dome was the first real image we have of the new Lex Luthor… and with rumours of a new image for the villainous business magnate, many wondered whether he’d still have this classic look.
Thankfully, it seems that Zack Snyder is playing to the characters’ strengths. And in a film like Batman V Superman that has to be a good thing.
But how does Lex fit into the movie? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice heads to cinemas on 25 March 2016.
