Jesse Eisenberg is already facing off against the World’s Finest in the upcoming Batman V Superman. But it looks as though Superman’s old nemesis could expand his criminal empire as he enters talks to appear in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the 31-year-old Batman V Superman villain is being courted for an appearance in DC’s freshest new property – David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
“I hear that Warner Bros is in discussions with Jesse Eisenberg to take the Lex Luthor character he will unveil in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice’, and transfer the villain character to Suicide Squad.”
Of course, Suicide Squad is slated to be DC’s first new release after the highly-anticipated Batman V Superman. And perhaps it makes sense to include Superman’s most iconic foe in the mix.
“On the DC Comics-heavy slate that Warner Bros laid out for Wall Street last week, the film Suicide Squad was the only one lacking a clear identification to the superhero-themed franchises that will dominate the slate through 2020. That might change.”
Unfortunately, it looks as though this could impact Eisenberg’s other commitments… and certainly brings his appearance in Arms and The Dudes into question, as well as the much anticipated Zombieland sequel.
“I’m hearing it’s unlikely he would be able to do both,” they say of ‘Arms and The Dudes’. “He’s already set to reprise in ‘Now You See Me 2’, and [Suicide Squad] is a clear priority since Kevin Tsujihara told Wall Street that it would be a 2016 release.”
Obviously, Suicide Squad is going to be a high priority in the coming months. After all, Warner Bros. are keen to gather steam on their superhero properties… and that apparently includes approaching the likes of Will Smith and Tom Hardy for roles in the villainous spin-off.
The big question remains as to whether Eisenberg will agree to appear. For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but I get the feeling that Warner Bros. will pull out the big guns to ensure that he’s on board.
