Although Star Wars VII has already finished filming, it looks as though Jessica Chastain wants to head to the galaxy far, far away.
A long time ago, in a galaxy where The Force Awakens hadn’t started filming, almost everyone in Hollywood suggested they wanted a role in the new films. We saw almost every actor under the sun reveal that they’d love to appear in the Star Wars saga… and now it looks as though that trend is far from over.
After starring alongsideOscar Isaac, it looks as though Jessica Chastain likes the idea of joining him on set… but who could she play?
During an interview with Digital Spy, the 37-year-old actress admitted that she’s love a part in the upcoming sequels.
“They never sent me the script,” she laughed. “I would have absolutely been in Star Wars, I would have loved to be in Star Wars,” she added. “I know they’re going to make more so…”
Although Jessica Chastain may have been overlooked when it comes to Star Wars VII, it seems she wouldn’t mind waiting for a role in parts VIII or IX. But then, it has to be a good enough role…
“Listen, I’m an actor because I love film. I love going to the movies, I love comedies and so many different kinds of films, sci-fi, drama, horror films I love them all. And I’d love to do anything it just has to be a good role. You know like I don’t want to just stand there and hold a spoon, I really want to do something fun and I would absolutely would love it.”
Of course, I can’t help thinking she’d be a perfect fit for a certain Star Wars character…
Mara Jade Skywalker appeared extensively throughout the Expanded Universe novels… and while it’s unknown whether she’s made it into the new franchise, I can’t help thinking Jessica Chastain would be absolutely perfect for the role.
Originally introduced as a smuggler, she was later established as one of Emperor Palpatine’s special agents… and eventually becomes a Jedi Master. But could Mara Jade fit into the upcoming sequels?
At this stage, we have no idea what to expect… and while solid information about Star Wars VII remains few and far between, it looks as though we’ll have to wait to find out. But could Mara Jade end up in the galaxy far, far away?
It’s certainly possible – whether it happens in the main saga or in one of the highly-anticipated Star Wars spin-offs. And she might even appear in a form we’ve not seen before, cherry-picked from the Lucasfilm archives as a character worth using again.
Either way, perhaps Jessica Chastain should be sought out for a role… after all, her performance in Interstellar was truly out of this world.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.
