Jim Parsons is rather keen to land a comic book movie role… as he reveals he’d love to play The Riddler on the big screen.
In an interview with MTV News, the star of The Big Bang Theory revealed that just like Sheldon Cooper, he’d love to be in a comic book movie.
“I would love to play a superhero in a movie,” he said. “I would like to be a villain. And… I would really like to play The Riddler. I don’t feel they’re using the Riddler very much, are they?”
Not using the Riddler very much? That’s a bit of an understatement. After all, the last time we saw him on the big screen was in the cheesy 90s Batman flick, Batman Forever. And as DC fans will never forget, he was played by the rubber-faced Jim Carey.
Of course, Jim Parsons’ take on the Riddler would likely be a lot less zany… but still, I can’t help thinking that perhaps Edward Nygma is a bit too colourful a character for the more gritty DC universe. At least, in its current form.
Let’s face it – a villain with a penchant for rhymes and riddles wouldn’t really fit in.
But could they go the same route as TV’s ‘Gotham’?
Starring Cory Michael Smith as a more realistic version of the Riddler, Gotham paints the picture of a brilliant, yet socially awkward forensic scientist who is misunderstood by those around him.
Could Parson create a great Riddler in the same style?
Unfortunately, there’s been no hint of the Riddler in any of DC’s upcoming films… and while that’s a crying shame, I get the feeling it might be a tough job to work this flamboyant character into the more grounded world they’ve been building towards.
Will Jim Parsons ever get the chance to put on that green suit? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it seems unlikely.
