Could we finally get another Dungeons & Dragons movie?
It looks as though Joe Manganiello is a bit of a table top gaming fan… and he’s trying to bring D&D back to the big screen.
During an interview with MTV, the 40-year-old actor revealed he’s been shopping around a pitch for a new fantasy flick – a Dungeons & Dragons movie.
“Last year with a playwright I went to Carnegie Mellon with, I actually made a draft of a film, and now we’re talking to all the right parties,” the star revealed. “I had a two-day creative summit with the Wizards of the Coast…we had like a two-day summit about where the movie could go or TV series, products, synergy, the whole deal.”
But did he actually get anywhere?
It looks as though the actor, who’s currently pegged to play Deathstroke in the upcoming Batman solo film, would want to be behind the camera on a D&D project, as well as in front of it.
And he’s not the first person to bring up a Dungeons & Dragons pitch.
After all, last year it was rumoured that Warner Bros. was moving forward with a D&D movie with Rob Letterman as a possible director. But we’ve heard nothing since.
Either way, it’s kinda cool to see Manganiello so interested in a Dungeons and Dragons movie… and he’s clearly enamoured with the concept, as he explains why he wants to make it:
“Obviously there’s a spectacle. There’s dragons, breathing fire and lightning,” he said. “That’s the biggest draw in Game of Thrones… [but] what makes a great fantasy or superhero movie is the human aspect. It’s gotta be about something.”
“We root for those characters in Game of Thrones. Fellowship of the Ring was about friendship and this undying love for your friends and doing anything for your friends, and I think that’s something people can identify with… so I think when a movie is about something human and real emotionally, people are wanna go see it. And then if you get some dragons and breathing fire, I mean, hey, I’m in.”
Will he get to make his Dungeons and Dragons movie?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
