Suicide Squad has found its Rick Flagg… and it’s none other than Joel Kinnaman.
According to The Wrap, the 35-year-old Robocop actor may have already landed the role of classic DC character Rick Flagg Jr. But it is it quite so straight forward?
“Joel Kinnaman will replace Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg in Warner Bros.’ comic book adaptation ‘Suicide Squad’,” they claimed. “Warner Bros. had no comment, while representatives for Kinnaman did not respond to multiple requests for comment.”
“Agency sources tell TheWrap that Kinnaman is in negotiations for the coveted role of Flagg, who is the leader of a group of supervillains known as the Suicide Squad.”
Joel Kinnaman recently starred in AMC’s The Killing… but it seems his breakout role came in 2014 with the Robocop reboot. Starring as Detective Alex Murphy, he brought the 80’s action flick right up to date. And now it looks as though he could star as Rick Flagg – the leader of DC’s Suicide Squad.
That is, if he lands the part. But according to The Hollywood Reporter, he might not be the only actor in the running…
“Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal are other actors that were being considered for the role, according to sources,” they explain. “But Kinnaman appears to be the choice at this stage. Insiders caution that any deal being discussed could fall apart.”
Obviously, this wouldn’t be the first time a deal has fallen through for the role of Rick Flagg. After all, we’ve seen Tom Hardy walk away from the part as well as Jake Gyllenhaal turning down the offer to take over.
But will Kinnaman end up taking the role?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But Joel Kinnaman might just be a great Rick Flagg.
Suicide Squad heads to cinemas on 5 August 2016.
