The Amazing Spider-Man contender Josh Hutcherson reveals he’s still keen to become Marvel’s famous webslinger.
After the reported departure of Andrew Garfield, the upcoming Spider-Man movie is in need of a leading man. But who will they get to take his place? Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson was once being considered for the very same role… and it seems he’s still keen to suit up.
But is he really right for the role?
During an interview with Yahoo! Movies, the 22-year-old actor admitted that he’s still interested in becoming the webslinging superhero.
“Yeah, of course I’d think about doing it: It’s Spider-Man,” he said. “That’d be really cool. There’s not been any conversations about that, but who knows what would happen?”
Of course, back when Hutcherson was just 18-year-old, he came very close to landing the role of Peter Parker… and his rather impressive audition video has since surfaced online.
But will Marvel and Sony look at earlier actors for the role?
If you believe recent reports, that all depends on whether or not its Peter Parker who will appear in the new franchise. Miles Morales – a young black teen who ends up donning the mantle of Spider-Man in the comic books – is apparently being considered.
And other reports suggest that Peter Parker may even change ethnicity.
Of course, this would put Josh Hutcherson out of the running. But considering his earlier attempts to become Spider-Man, I can’t help wondering whether they’ll invite him in for an audition, regardless.
But will he land the coveted role?
Even if we’re looking at a traditionally Caucasian Peter Parker, there are apparently several other contenders for the role… including Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman. Whether or not any of these actors end up in the role remains to be seen. But I can’t help thinking that Josh Hutcherson may stand a better chance than others.
Either way, for now we’ll have to wait and see. Let’s just hope the new Spider-Man movies are better than their predecessors.
The all-new Spider-Man movie heads to cinemas on 28 July 2017.
