Although Joss Whedon will be taking a break from Marvel after Avengers: Age of Ultron, the celebrated director won’t rule out a return.
During an interview with Collider, the 50-year-old Marvel director revealed that he’s only taking a break… and he could well be back.
“Well I’m definitely going to take a real break for a couple months because my brain is no longer,” he joked. But he never ruled out returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe… and he could well be back to help with scriptwriting duties in the future.
Of course, many fans wondered why the legendary Marvel director had chosen to step down from the Avengers franchise. After all, with the Avengers as well as its first sequel under his belt, he’s often been thought of as the best man for the job when it comes to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
In fact, for some time we assumed he was the only man for the job.
“You know, I’ve looked at both options,” he said. “I love these guys. I love these movies; they’re exciting. But part of me does think, ‘You know what? I got to find out what’s next’.”
But what’s next on the agenda for the iconic film-making geek?
“There’s nothing that I don’t want to do,” Whedon admitted. “I love every genre, and a lot of different mediums. I have literally no idea. I do not know at all what I’m going to do next.”
Thankfully, it’s not all doom and gloom… and while Whedon won’t be back for Infinity War, it seems that he’s left the franchise in very good hands – the Russo Brothers.
Known for Captain America: The Winter Soldier it seems that they’ve already made quite an impression at Marvel Studios.
After all, they’re set to take on the ambitious and highly-anticipated Captain America: Civil War as well as the Infinity War storyline.
But will Whedon regret walking away?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but Age of Ultron is quite a movie to end on.
Avengers: Age of Ultron heads to cinemas on 23 April 2015.
