It’s official – Kate Beckinsale will return to the Underworld franchise.
Underworld: Next Generation will be the fifth instalment in the successful gothic vampire franchise, and will see the return of Kate Beckinsale as Selene – a Death Dealer who could well end up training the next generation of Werewolf killers.
And it looks as though Theo James will also be back.
“Kate Beckinsale is back for more Underworld action,” said The Hollywood Reporter. “The actress has signed on to reprise her vampire character, Selene, in the fifth instalment in the franchise from Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems.”
“Theo James, who appeared briefly in 2012’s Underworld: Awakening, is attached to reprise his character as he fulfills an option agreement.”
But what will the fifth Underworld movie be about?
Unfortunately, details are pretty scarce… but it looks as though it’s all about introducing a new generation of vampires, locked in the never-ending war between them and the Lycans.
And with Kate Beckinsale back as Selene, I get the feeling it’ll probably do rather well.
“Directing the movie is Anna Foerster, who has done second-unit work and was Roland Emmerich’s right-hand woman as the director of photography on such movies as The Day After Tomorrow and White House Down. This is the first time that a woman is directing the female-led action-horror franchise.”
The film will be shot in Prague later this year… and is expected to head to cinemas in 2016.
But will it really be any good? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But it has to be better than Twilight. Right?
