Django Unchained star Kerry Washington is rumoured to be a part of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
But what part would she play?
There have already been plenty of rumours and speculation when it comes to David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. We’ve seen the likes of Will Smith and Tom Hardy linked to villainous roles and even rumours that Jared Leto would bring The Joker back to the big screen. But what about the woman in charge?
According to Mike Messina of Mike The Film Guy, the 37-year-old actress – famous for leading the hit TV series Scandal – is linked to an upcoming role in Suicide Squad.
“I’ve heard rumblings that Kerry Washington might be in talks to be Amanda Waller,” he explained. “That would be very cool casting.”
But who is Amanda Waller?
Dr. Amanda Blake Waller is one of DC’s more recent antiheroes… and despite not possessing any super powers of her own, has proven time and again that she’s a force to be reckoned with. Placed in charge of the third iteration of the classic Suicide Squad, she’s ruffled plenty of feathers… and spent her fair share of time behind bars as a result.
But will Kerry Washington sign up to the ambitious super villain movie?
At the moment, this is nothing more than a rumour… and without heftier corroboration, it looks as though it’ll remain that way for a while. But I can’t help thinking that Washington would make a great Amanda Waller. After all, they’re likely to deviate from Waller’s early design when it comes to the big screen, and Washington has already proved time and again that she has the clout to bring a commanding presence to our screens.
Whether or not she’s even in the running is another matter entirely… but I hope WB will seriously consider her for the role.
Suicide Squad is expected in cinemas from August 2016.
