It looks as though Kingpin isn’t satisfied with only taking on Marvel’s Daredevil and he wants a shot at Spider-Man, too.
During an interview with IGN, the upcoming Daredevil villain revealed that he’d love to get the chance to kick Spider-Man’s ass.
“That would be super-cool, yeah,” said actor Vincent D’Onofrio. “To be able to kick Spider-Man’s butt would be awesome.”
Although sadly, D’Onofrio has “no idea” whether it’s even possible at this stage.
“We just don’t know about those things,” he added. “Those are all the Marvel secrets that they never tell us until they need us, so… Yeah, I would do it. I would do it in a second.”
Of course, while the Kingpin is one of the most recognisable Daredevil villains, he’s also gone toe-to-toe with Spider-Man throughout the comic books. And while there don’t seem to be any plans to bring Daredevil to the big screen just yet, it looks as though the entire cast is more than up for it.
But what brought Vincent D’Onofriio to the role in the first place?
“[It] was just an incredible conversation and during the conversation I realized how much I actually did know of Daredevil’s origin story,” he explained. “I guess I had read a couple of [the comics] as a kid, but I didn’t remember. And [we talked] about the new Fisk. This Fisk that [showrunner] Steven DeKnight was writing and that Jeph wanted to do, which made this Netflix/Marvel series. From that call I think I committed to the project.”
“You know, they wanted him brought in as a human,” he said. “As a real kind of, just a man, who eventually turns into this iconic character. So that’s a fun job. I mean I thought right away, ‘That’s fantastic.’ You can do so many cool things with that.”
Of course, D’Onofrio is yet to make his debut as the Kingpin… but will be on our screens soon enough in the Daredevil TV series. But will he make an excellent Marvel villain? I get the feeling he’s got exactly the right clout to pull this off.
Daredevil heads to Netflix on 10 April 2015.
