Kingsman actress Sofia Boutella has landed a role in Star Trek 3.
But will she play a hero or a villain?
According to Deadline, the 33-year-old Bond-esque villainess has signed up for a leading role in the upcoming Star Trek sequel.
“After a sharp turn as the sexy blade-legged assassin in the Matthew Vaughn-directed hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, Sofia Boutella has been set for a lead role in Star Trek 3.”
But who will she be playing? It looks as though that’s not such a simple question…
“Prying loose info on this project is difficult, so I’m not sure whether she’s on the side of good or bad,” they said. “But I’m told she’s got a lead role in the Paramount/Skydance film produced by Bad Robot that’s based on the Gene Roddenberry series. Paramount has dated the pic’s release for July 8, 2016.”
Although Sofia Boutella seems to be the first new face to join Star Trek 3, she’s not the first to be linked to the upcoming Trek sequel. After all, she could soon find herself alongside the legendary British actor, Idris Elba.
That is, if she ends up playing a villain…
Although details of Elba’s rumoured role remain scarce, it’s said that he’s in talks to become the Star Trek 3 villain. And if you dig deeper still, it’s been rumoured that the Klingons will make an appearance.
Of course, many fans have joined the dots, assuming that Elba is up for the role of a villainous Klingon… but nothing has been confirmed at this stage.
But could Sofia Boutella join him in make-up for those iconic forehead ridges?
It’s certainly possible… and I can’t help thinking they’d make a ruthlessly excellent pairing. But we’ll just have to wait and see.
Star Trek 3 heads to cinemas on 8 July 2016.
