X-Men: Apocalypse is recasting an X-Men classic as Kodi Smit-McPhee joins as Nightcrawler.
The teleporting mutant appeared in the X-Men sequel, X2. But he has since been notably absent. Thankfully, with X-Men: Apocalypse looking to recast some of our favourite classic X-Men, it looks as though Nightcrawler will be making a comeback.
But will he be the same mutant we know and love?
According to director Bryan Singer, the 18-year-old actor will be joining the cast of Apocalypse as the young Nightcrawler.
“Excited to welcome @kodismitmcphee to the cast of #XmenApocalypse as young #Nightcrawler,” he said via Instagram.
Of course, Nightcrawler is just the latest classic mutant to be recast – with Sophie Turner as a young Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops and Alexandra Shipp as Storm. But while these X-Men were rumoured to appear for some time, Nightcrawler definitely comes as a bit of a surprise.
Kodi Smit-McPhee recently turned heads in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – the rather cool sequel to the critically acclaimed Rise of the Planet of the Apes. But is he the right fit for Nightcrawler?
With the cast heading younger, it seems like a great fit. But how will he fit into the fight against Apocalypse?
At the moment, we’re yet to find out. After all, with casting still seemingly on-going, it looks as though we may have a bit of a wait before production begins. But does this mean we’ll see other classic mutants return to our screen?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But Kodi Smit-McPhee will be joining the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
