Marvel’s Defenders has finally found its Jessica Jones… and it’s none other than Krysten Ritter.
But who will join her as Luke Cage?
According to Deadline Hollywood, the 32-year-old actress has been approached to lead the Defenders TV show as Jessica Jones.
“I hear they have tapped Krysten Ritter for the lead in the company’s straight-to-series drama Jessica Jones,” they revealed. “Ritter was one of five actresses who tested for the role. I hear it came down to her and Teresa Palmer.”
Of course, Jessica Jones is a mainstay when it comes to the more feminine side of the Marvel comic book universe, having appeared in the New Avengers after her debut in 2001.
Inspired by Spider-Man to use her powers for good, Jones is said to team up with the likes of Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil for the company’s straight-to-Netflix Defenders series. And it looks as though Deadline has some idea about who will be playing Luke Cage…
“Mike Colter [is] believed to be the choice for male lead Luke Cage,” they reveal. And it looks as though Ritter may have already performed reads with the reported Power Man.
But this isn’t the first time he’s been linked to the role…
According to long-time fan-favourite, Terry Crews, his pal Colter has definitely landed the role… and he even took to WhoSay to congratulate him.
“Congratulations to my man, Mike Colter for being cast as LUKE CAGE! A brilliant actor for one of my favourite superheroes ever! Love him!”
At this stage, it looks fairly certain that Colter has landed the highly sought-after role… even if Marvel is yet to confirm the casting. But while Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones are all seemingly cast, there’s one Defenders member yet to find an actor – Iron Fist.
Who will end up playing him in the much anticipated Netflix series? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But judging by the calibre of the actors we know so far, it’s going to be a very interesting new project… and might turn out to be a surprise hit.
