Lando Calrissian Hints At Star Wars Return

Billy Dee Williams may return to the galaxy far, far away.

February 12, 2015 by Ryan Leston

Star Wars Lando Calrissian

Billy Dee Williams is convinced that he’ll return to the galaxy far, far away in an upcoming Star Wars movie… but does this mean he knows something we don’t?

The 77-year-old actor is famous for portraying the coolest guy in the galaxy – Lando Calrissian – in the original Star Wars trilogy. And after helping the Rebels destroy the second Death Star, he soon became hailed as a hero.

But will he be back in the sequel trilogy?

During an interview with Cinelinx, Billy Dee discussed being left out of Star Wars: The Force Awakens… but hinted that he may be back, yet.

“Yeah, people were pretty upset about it,” he said. And a quick look around the internet reveals thousands of fans who want to see Lando back on the big screen. “But I uh… I may very well… I have a feeling I’m going to show up.”

Of course, this sounds as though Billy Dee Williams has some idea that he’ll be returning. After all, his hesitations come across as someone who knows too much. But for now, this remains pure speculation.

But could there be a bit more to it than that?

“There’s nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage,” he added. “People think of me as the original cast, but I didn’t come in until the second movie. I did ‘Empire’ and then I did ‘Return of the Jedi’, but I came in after everyone else was introduced. I think they’re probably proceeding in that way.”

It certainly sounds as though Williams is onto something… and perhaps he’s playing coy because he knows something that we don’t. Then again, there’s also the possibility that there really is nothing to discuss. Even if that does seem a little harsh.

Of course, Star Wars fans have continued to speculate that John Boyega’s new character could be related to Lando in some way… and might even be his son. But with little details about the upcoming film, it all remains tantalisingly unclear at this point.

Will John Boyega’s Finn turn out to be Lando’s son? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But let’s hope that Billy Dee Williams gets to return either way. After all, he is the coolest guy in the galaxy.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens heads to cinemas on 18 December 2015.

Do you think Lando should return to the Star Wars franchise? Will he and Finn be related? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
