After the huge success of the Lego Movie it looks as though Lego Batman will return to our screens in his very own spin-off movie… and Will Arnett will reprise the role. But how does this affect the Lego Movie sequel?
It’s no surprise that Warner Bros. is keen to press on with the Lego Movie universe, after all, its huge popularity managed to secure a sequel almost instantly. But while Lego Movie 2 was already in the works, it seems that it may have been gazumped by the rather more exciting Lego Batman spin-off.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the planned Lego Movie 2 has been pushed back to accommodate Will Arnett’s first solo outing as the Lego Dark Knight.
“Chris McKay, the animation supervisor on Lego Movie, was initially set to direct that project’s sequel. However, the movie is being pushed back and McKay is now helming the Lego Batman movie, which is being written by author-screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith.”
And it looks as though the film will be hitting our cinema screens a lot sooner than we thought, as WB pushes back the Lego Movie 2 to make room.
“Warners is eyeing a 2017 release for the spinoff, possibly even on the original date for Lego Movie 2. The next Lego movie to be released is Ninjago, due to open Sept. 23, 2016. The Lego Movie sequel will now presumably be released after 2017.”
It’s reported that Will Arnett has agreed to reprise the role… and after his absolutely awesome performance in the ‘Lego Movie’ we’re glad to see him return. Lego Movie producers Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will also return… but little is known about who will be joining Will Arnett in the sound booth.
Will we see a Lego Robin join him on the big screen? Will The Joker return to Gotham City in Lego form? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
