Liam Neeson Wants To Return To Star Wars

Liam Neeson admits that he’s keen to return to Star Wars.

Despite Qui-Gon Jinn’s rather spectacular death in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, it looks as though Liam Neeson is keen to pick up that lightsaber.

The Phantom Menace remains one of the most ridiculed Star Wars movies of the entire saga… mostly because of Jar Jar Binks. But while the gibbering Gungan made a spectacle of himself on the big screen, Qui-Gon Jinn brought a touch of class. Even if he did get offed by the nefarious Darth Maul.

But could he return?

Aaron Paul Debunks Star Wars Rumours

During an interview with our pals at Yahoo! Movies UK, the 62-year-old Star Wars prequel actor revealed that he’d love to return to the galaxy far, far away.

“Yeah, I’d say so,” he replied, when asked if he’d be up for a Star Wars spin-off. “Yeah, that would be terrific…I certainly loved shooting the prequel, but that was many years ago now.”

Of course, with Qui-Gon dead and buried, it might be a bit of a challenge when it comes to bringing him back into the main saga. But that’s not to say he couldn’t appear in one of the upcoming Star Wars spin-offs.

“I don’t know [how he would return],” he said. “Unless you went back in time or he becomes a hologram or something. He’s a Jedi, anything could happen, it’s Star Wars world!”

Obviously, if Qui-Gon did return from death, this wouldn’t be the first time a Jedi had returned. After all, Alec Guinness returned several times after Obi-Wan’s death in the first Star Wars film. And even Master Yoda has appeared as a Force Ghost.

Could Qui-Gon get the same treatment?

I can’t help thinking that if Liam Neeson was to return to Star Wars, it’s more likely to happen in one of the spin-off movies. After all, it would be great to see him pick up that green lightsaber once more. And an appearance by his Force ghost might seem a little out of place in the main saga, considering that he doesn’t really have a connection to any of the main characters.

At least, not that we know of.

“[Qui-Gon] would use the nice green [lightsaber] still,” he explained. “I still have it, I keep it polished.”

Do you think Liam Neeson should return as Qui-Gon Jinn? Would a Star Wars spin-off be a great place for him? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
