After expanding their TV presence with Arrow, The Flash and Gotham, it looks as though DC might also be bringing Teen Titans back to our screens.
It’s perhaps not surprising that Warner Bros. and DC are keen to capitalise on the extensive back-catalogue of heroes at their disposal. After all, they’ve got plenty of awesome heroes to work with. One of those properties – Teen Titans – has already appeared on screen in cartoon form… but now it looks as though we could end up with a live action version soon enough.
According to Deadline Hollywood, TNT is on the verge of picking up a series order for the new TV show Titans… and that means a pilot is just around the corner.
“The studio is expanding the DC brand to cable drama with Titans, a project that is nearing a pilot order at TNT. Titans is one of three TNT drama pilots stuck on the runaway, awaiting a formal green light as the network is undergoing a regime change.”
Written by Akiva Goldsman, Titans introduces everyone’s favourite young superheroes, including Dick Grayson as Nightwing, Starfire, Raven and even a young Cyborg. Of course, Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go! have already been successful cartoon series’… but will the young super group be able to make a successful switch to live action?
If you ask me, it might be a bit much.
Not that I wouldn’t want to see a live-action Teen Titans show… but with the current influx of DC properties, I can’t help thinking that these lesser-known heroes might end up getting drowned out amidst all the hype of these other TV shows.
I mean, let’s face it – there are bound to be more people aware of The Flash than Robin’s alter ego, Nightwing. Still, if TNT chooses to pick up the show, it could be an interesting way into the more youthful side of DC’s superhero roster… and with an older, grizzled Batman on the way in Batman V Superman it could well be the source of some light relief.
