Independence Day 2 lands another cast member… as director Roland Emmerich reveals Maika Monroe has signed up to the sci-fi sequel.
Appearing on Twitter, the Independence Day writer/director revealed that It Follows actress Maika Monroe has now joined the cast.
“I have another addition to announce,” he said. “The beautiful & talented Maika Monroe is officially signed on 2 the Independence Day Sequel!”
Of course, the 21-year-old actress is perhaps best known for role in It Follows – the 2014 supernatural horror film which follows a girl being pursued by a supernatural entity after a sexual encounter.
But she’s also starred in the likes of The Guest and even The Bling Ring.
Monroe joins new cast members Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Travis Tope, as well as Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner – all of whom starred in the original ‘Independence Day’.
But what role will Maika Monroe play?
Co-star Jessie Usher is already set to portray the son of Will Smith’s character, Captain Stephen Hiller. And with rumours that President Whitmore’s offspring may make an appearance, it’s entirely possible to see Monroe as the daughter of the President.
And it’s thought that she may even end up as Luke Hemsworth’s love interest.
Of course, for now we’ll have to wait and see. But with the cast starting to shape up nicely, it’s surely not long before the film moves into development. And then perhaps we’ll find out more about our new additions.
Either way, the new cast members are promising… and this could be the sci-fi sequel we’ve all been waiting for.
Independence Day Forever heads to cinemas on 24 June 2016.
