Margot Robbie is linked to a role in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie… and it looks as though it could be Harley Quinn.
Hot on the heels of Fury it looks as though David Ayer is busy gathering together his next group of ragtag misfits for DC‘s upcoming Suicide Squad movie. And while we’ve heard lots of names attached to the upcoming super villain movie, it looks as though Margot Robbie has been all but confirmed.
According to Collider, the 24-year-old Australian actress has already landed the role of Harley Quinn – pairing up with Jared Leto’s Joker.
“A few weeks ago, we reported that Will Smith, Tom Hardy, and Margot Robbie [are] close to signing on to Suicide Squad, a film director David Ayer describes as ‘The Dirty Dozen with super villains’,” they explained. “Hot on the heels of learning that Jared Leto is being courted to play The Joker, we have now learned from sources that Robbie will play Harley Quinn.”
The unmistakable Harley Quinn was a Batman villain introduced around the 1990s as a former Arkham Asylum psychiatrist, Harleen Quinzel. And it’s not long before The Joker manipulates her into falling madly in love with him.
Of course, it’s not known for sure whether Harley Quinn will even feature in the upcoming Suicide Squad film… but if you ask me, Collider have hit the nail on the head. We’ve seen Margot Robbie rumoured to join the movie for some time. And although Harley Quinn is only a recent addition in the comic books, it makes sense for DC to play to their strengths. And let’s face it – The Joker and Harley Quinn are two of their most instantly recognisable villains.
In fact, I can’t help thinking that Harley Quinn’s appearance is practically a given. But whether or not she’s played by Margot Robbie is another matter entirely. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see… but after her Wolf of Wall Street appearance, it looks as though DC are pretty keen to get her on board.
