Mark Ruffalo Wants Planet Hulk Movie

The Big Green himself, Mark Ruffalo wants to star in a Planet Hulk movie.

Marvel’s movie slate may be pretty packed already, but Mark Ruffalo thinks there should be room for one more – Planet Hulk.

During an interview with IGN, the 47-year-old Avengers star admitted that he’d love to bring the slightly-obscure Hulk comic book to the big screen.

“I think there’s a lot of places to go with [Hulk],” he said. “Well he’s going to space. Yeah, I mean there’s some talk of maybe Planet Hulk.”

But don’t get too excited – it looks as though he hasn’t been in any official talks…

“Ruffalo went on to say that he hadn’t been involved in active talks for the project and it isn’t a part of Marvel’s announced slate,” IGN explained. “It’s unclear what – if any – stage of development it’s in.”

Of course, there have been rumours of a Planet Hulk movie for a long time… ever since the Latino Review first reported them back in early 2013. But while we’ve seen no progress on a solo Hulk movie for Mark Ruffalo, it seems he’s still keen.

Even if it’s not been discussed officially at Marvel.

In fact, during the Guardians of the Galaxy press junket, Marvel boss Kevin Feige stated that there are no plans for a Planet Hulk movie… and stressed exactly why it poses such a problem to bring it to the big screen.

“I think what’s cool about the Planet Hulk story is it’s all Hulk,” he said. “He’s a gladiator, he’s fighting all these creatures on another world. Yes, some of those creatures show up in [Guardians of the Galaxy], which makes people think, ‘Oh, maybe it could exist.’ And maybe it could exist, someday. I don’t think that’s the first place we would go, though.”

The Vision Revealed In Avengers: Age Of Ultron

“If we were ever able to do a standalone Hulk movie, 60 percent of the fun would be seeing Mark Ruffalo leading a Marvel movie — and that’s what we would do if we ever went down that road.”

Does this mean Planet Hulk is permanently off the table? Not necessarily… and with the popularity of Guardians of the Galaxy, perhaps Marvel will rethink the whole Hulk-in-space concept.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Do you think Marvel should make a Planet Hulk movie? Would Hulk be quite so interesting without Bruce Banner? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
