Spider-Man is currently searching for its Peter Parker… as 16-year-old Mateus Ward has reportedly auditioned for the role.
According to Badass Digest, Marvel is currently searching for their new Spider-Man… and the 16-year-old actor has already been in for an audition.
“I had heard from solid sources that Marvel was looking at some 16 and 17 year old actors,” they revealed. “Now a new (untested) source has chimed in to say that Mateus Ward, a child actor from Showtime’s Weeds, auditioned for the role.”
But why has nobody else heard about the recent audition? It looks as though Marvel has been taking precautions to avoid anything leaking…
“It was so super-secret they held the audition at a house, not any sort of office,” they said. “But word leaks out, as it always will. Does this mean Ward will get the role? I don’t know, and I’m not really familiar with the kid’s work, but if true it does show that Marvel is indeed casting young.”
If the rumour proves to be true, it certainly looks as though Marvel will be bringing Peter Parker back to our screens rather than the other fan choice, Miles Morales.
But either way, it does look as though Marvel is casting young.
Of course, it’s been rumoured for some time that they wanted an appropriately-aged actor in order to bring Peter Parker back to high school. And it looks as though they may be on their way towards finding one.
But how will young Peter stack up against the likes of Iron Man and Captain America when he inevitably meets The Avengers?
There’s certainly going to be a difference in stature… but with the right actor, Peter Parker’s attitude will no doubt shine through. And that’s what will make him capable of standing side-by-side with the big boys.
Will that be Mateus Ward? For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but I’d still love to see Dylan O’Brien in the role.
Do you think Mateus Ward would make a good Spider-Man? Who would you like to see in the role? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
