Matt Ryan Talks Big Screen Constantine

Matt Ryan is keen to play Constantine in the Justice League Dark movie.

22nd November 2014 by Ryan Leston

Matt Ryan wants to play Constantine on the big screen.

After taking the starring role in DC’s Constantine it looks as though Matt Ryan is keen to keep the famous trench coat when it comes to the Justice League Dark movie.

During an interview with IGN, the 33-year-old Welsh actor revealed that he’d love to play Constantine on the big screen.

“What’s so great is that there’s so many great storylines and the Justice League Dark stuff as well. How fantastic would that be if we could do something like that? Obviously those things are out of my hands, so we’ll see.”

Jai Courtney Rumoured For Suicide Squad

Of course, this isn’t the first time Matt Ryan has been linked to the big screen version of John Constantine, with director Guillermo Del Torro revealing that he’s certainly open to casting Ryan in the role.

“If we see the TV series and we can mesh with it or cast the same actor depending on where the movie is going, I would be happy to consider that,” he told IGN back in August. But will this ever happen?

Unfortunately, there’s been practically no news about Del Torro’s Justice League Dark… even after Warner Bros. and DC revealed their entire slate up until 2020. Does this mean that the highly-anticipated film has been canned? Not necessarily… After all, with Del Torro still working on Crimson Peak and with Pacific Rim 2 coming in 2017, it’s likely that he’s just too busy to really throw himself into it.

I can’t help thinking that Warner Bros. would be foolish to walk away from such an ambitious project. I mean, Justice League Dark adds a whole new aspect to DC’s growing cinematic universe. And if it manages to it into the wider story, they could be onto something really special.

But will Matt Ryan end up playing John Constantine on the big screen?

Jared Leto May Join Suicide Squad As The Joker

There’s certainly a chance… but I get the feeling it all depends on how well the TV series is received by the fans. So far, it’s yet to really make its mark. That’s not to say that Matt Ryan isn’t perfect in the role – he really is. But where Arrow and The Flash exploded onto our screens, Constantine arrived with little more than a fizzle.

Of course, there’s still time to turn it all around. And if you ask me, Matt Ryan is the perfect man to bring Constantine to our screens. And if nothing else, the TV show is still better than the Keanu Reeves movie…

Would you want to see Matt Ryan appear in Justice League Dark? Should he bring John Constantine to the big screen? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
