Matthew McConaughey Open To Comic Book Movies

Matthew McConnaughey Adam Warlock

Although Matthew McConaughey is currently taking the sci-fi genre by storm with Interstellar it looks as though he wouldn’t mind starring in his own comic book movie…

In an interview with IGN, the 45-year-old actor revealed that he wouldn’t mind taking on his very own comic book property…

“It’s not an area that I’m saying I wouldn’t like to go,” he said. “I don’t know, it would have to be a script and a character that I found interesting and one where I can have a personal experience.”

Loki Will Return In Avengers: Infinity War

Of course, McConaughey has previously been linked to the upcoming Doctor Strange movie – a film which has seen the likes of Joaquim Phoenix tied to the title role. But with Benedict Cumberbatch reported to have pipped everyone to the post, it looks as though he may have to set his sights elsewhere.

“I’m not thinking about a genre like, ‘Oh, I really want to do this or I wouldn’t want to do that’. If something finds me at the right time, turns me on, and if I can grab a hold of it, see it from the inside and get a feeling that, ‘Oh, I’ve got a way I can do this that can be original.'”

But which upcoming comic book movie would McConaughey be perfect for?

After both DC and Marvel released a full slate of movies up until 2020, there’s not exactly a shortage of roles. But there are some that might suit him a bit more than others…

Adam Warlock – Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Alright, so we have no idea whether Adam Warlock will even appear in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sequel… but I can’t help thinking that McConaughey would be perfect for the role. An artificial being created by a superior alien race, Adam Warlock soon rebels against his creators and sets off throughout the universe, trying to find his place. Of course, it’s not long before he becomes entangled with the Guardians of the Galaxy… and could even be brought into play in the upcoming Infinity War.

Black Bolt – The Inhumans

Not so much perfect for the role, but certainly a possibility… Black Bolt is the leader of The Inhumans – a race of genetically advanced humans, created through experimentation by an alien race. Of course, The Inhumans movie introduces a number of new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but perhaps the most famous is their mute leader, Black Bolt. Harnessing the ability to level entire city blocks with the power of his voice, he was able to train himself never to utter a single word – not even in his sleep. A much more gritty role, perhaps this is the sort of original idea McConaughey would enjoy.

Green Arrow – Justice League

Although Stephen Amell already plays the role of Oliver Queen in TV’s Arrow it looks as though the movie role of the same name is still up for grabs. A phenomenal archer and owner of multi-billion corporation Queen Industries, the Green Arrow is one of the members of the Justice League of America… and was instrumental in helping Batman bring down Superman in the graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns. Whether or not he appears on the big screen remains to be seen, but I can’t help thinking that McConaughey could be just the right man to bring the Green Arrow a touch of gravitas.

Which comic book role would you like to see McConaughey land? Are there any other heroes you’d want to see him play? Let us know in the comments below…
