Matthew McConaughey Wants To Be In Star Wars

After appearing in Christopher Nolan’s epic sci-fi blockbuster Interstellar, it looks as though Matthew McConaughey wouldn’t mind heading to Star Wars.

Matthew McConaughey wants to star in a Star Wars movie.

After appearing in Christopher Nolan’s epic sci-fi blockbuster Interstellar, it looks as though Matthew McConaughey wouldn’t mind heading to Star Wars.

In an interview with IGN, the 45-year-old Interstellar star revealed that he’d love to head to the galaxy far, far away…

“Sure,” he said. “There’s not anything that I’m not open to embracing. I want it to be a quality script, I want a quality character. I want to be a little scared of it. I want to have new challenges.”

Star Wars VII’s R2-D2 Shows Wear And Tear

Of course, a role in the upcoming Star Wars sequels would certainly be something new and challenging… after all, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is one of the most highly-anticipated films in recent years. And with high expectations comes the challenge to push yourself as an actor.

“I want to do something,” he said. “Find in a character where I can get to a point where I feel like nobody could be doing this but me. I’m going to have an original experience… an original take. That takes work to get to that point, but whatever the genre I’m wide open.”

Obviously, McConaughey has been linked to numerous comic book movie roles over the years… and I can’t help thinking that his comments about making a role his and only his are reminiscent of Hugh Jackman’s career-defining stint as Wolverine.

But could this happen for McConaughey in a Star Wars movie?

At the moment, very little is known about the upcoming Star Wars sequel… but perhaps there’s hope for him yet. And with a number of Star Wars spin-offs planned in the coming years, there’s plenty of opportunity for him to make his mark on the galaxy far, far away.

But will he ever get to work with a wookiee? Asked about his favourite movie, it seems he’s already a fan of furry creatures…

C-3PO Says Star Wars VII Is Better Than Empire

“King Kong is one of my favourite love stories,” he said. “I’ve got an affection for the mammalian in all of us. I’m simple – I’ve always got a soft spot for the furry creatures.”

Of course, whether or not he ever gets the chance to appear in Star Wars is another matter entirely. But I can’t help thinking he’d make an excellent addition to the Star Wars universe perhaps in the role of a bounty hunter.

Could we have found the star of the rumoured Boba Fett solo film? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Do you think McConaughey should get a Star Wars role? Would you like to see him on the Light or Dark Side of the Force? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
