Big Little Lies just bagged another Hollywood A-lister…
None other than Meryl Streep.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 68-year-old actress has just signed up to HBO’s popular American drama.
“HBO’s Big Little Lies is upping its star power for season two,” they revealed. “Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress Meryl Streep has boarded the premium cable network’s second season of the drama.”
Of course, she’s not the only A-lister on the show…
Based on a novel by Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, and Alexander Skarsgard. And with the addition of Meryl Streep, it looks as though the show has managed to up its game for the new season.
“Streep will play Mary Louise Wright, the mother to the abusive Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard).”
“Mary Louise Wright is described as a woman who is concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry’s death. She arrives in Monterey searching for answers.”
Of course, it’s easy to see how Meryl Streep was tempted by the role.
After all, Big Little Lies is packed full of acting talent, and even managed to bring home a total of 8 Emmys and 3 Golden Globes at this year’s awards. Not to mention, it sounds like a great role for the actress, who has been described by showrunner David E. Kelley as part of his dream cast for the show.
HBO says that the upcoming second season will explore the “malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode … the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgard, Laura Dern, and Meryl Streep.
Big Little Lies Season 2 is expected to debut in 2019.
