X-Men: Apocalypse sees the return of our favourite Marvel mutants… and now CIA agent Moira McTaggart is set to join them.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, X-Men writer Simon Kinberg revealed that Moira McTaggart – played by Rose Byrne – will be returning in X-Men: Apocalypse and she’s likely to play an important part.
“She’s a significant character in the movie,” he explained. “We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.”
Of course, McTaggart is already romantically linked to Charles Xavier… that is, before he forces her to forget all about him. But does that mean we can expect the same relationship in X-Men: Apocalypse?
“It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one,” he said. But with no memories of the X-Men and a rogue mutant on the loose in the form of Magneto, their relationship might not be as straight-forward as it seems.
Of course, Apocalypse is likely to follow the events of Days of Future Past. And while Mystique changed history by saving the life of the American president – an act which saw the cancellation of the Sentinel Program – it’s unlikely that the CIA are on the best of terms with the mutant populace.
Of course, with few details of the production, for now we’ll have to wait and see. But it sounds as though Charles Xavier will be in for an interesting time as he reacquaints himself with McTaggart.
But will it lead to romance? That remains a mystery.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
