Morena Baccarin’s role in the Deadpool solo movie has finally been revealed… and it’s a familiar name from the comic books.
After Gotham star Morena Baccarin landed a role in Deadpool, we’ve been dying to find out exactly who she’ll play. Of course, speculation has been rife and while her part in the movie remained a mystery, plenty have fans gave it a good guess.
And it seems some of them were right on the money.
Taking to Twitter, the 35-year-old Homeland actress posted a picture of her chair on the Deadpool set… and the name gives us a pretty big clue about her role.
“Let’s do this,” she commented, posting a picture of her chair with the name Vanessa on the front.
Of course, the character name Vanessa seems to point towards a very particular Marvel character – one which has long been associated with Deadpool. And it looks as though those early rumours were correct.
After all, it seems as though Morena Baccarin wil be playing Vanessa Carlyle – better known as Copycat in the comic books. A mutant capable of taking on the physical form of others, it makes her a force to be reckoned with… especially since she can also mimic the powers of other superheroes.
Appearing alongside Deadpool, her firstcomic book outing saw her masquerading as X-Force member, Domino. But after meeting Wade Wilso, it seems she soon fell in love with him.
But will this play into the Deadpool movie?
It can’t be a coincidence that the first Deadpool solo film will feature a character who has been in an intimate relationship with him… and there’s definitely a good reason why 20th Century Fox chose to include Copycat.
Of course, I can’t help thinking that we might see the start of a relationship begin to form between them… and that could be a popular move if the X-Force movie ever gets off the ground.
But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Morena Baccarin joins a thoroughly impressive cast, which includes Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, T. J. Miller as Weasel and Ed Skrein in a currently unknown role.
Deadpool heads to cinemas on 12 February 2016.
