Deadpool adds yet-another mutant to its cast list… but as Brianna Hildebrand joins as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, there’s one big question – who?
It’s no secret that Deadpool is beginning to round out its cast… and with a number of mutant characters reportedly joining the action, it looks as though the Merc with a Mouth is going to have a field day. But what about the latest addition – Negasonic Teenage Warhead?
I can’t help wondering who that even is…
According to The Hollywood Reporter, newcomer Brianna Hildebrand will star as the largely obscure X-Men mutant…
“The X-Men universe has plenty of obscure mutants filling its far-flung spaces,” they said. “But few have had such a unique moniker as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, a telepath with precognitive abilities… Brianna Hildebrand [is] now poised to inhabit the character in Deadpool, Fox’s Marvel adventure movie starring Ryan Reynolds.”
Created by Grant Morrison, the uniquely-named character appeared briefly during his New X-Men run… before being killed off. The young mutant’s abilities as a telepath grant her a form of precognitive vision – which she uses to correctly predict an attack which kills half her planet’s population… including herself.
In fact, of the mutant’s several appearances, she has been killed off each time. And with an off-the-wall kind-of main character such as Deadpool, I have to wonder how long she might survive in the upcoming movie.
The actress is reportedly preparing with “physical and stunt training” for the role… which seems to suggest far more than a bit part. But could she appear in the thick of things, only to be killed off instantaneously?
I can’t help thinking that’s exactly the kind of self-referential humour that would work well in Deadpool. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Deadpool heads to cinemas on 12 February 2016.
