Neil Gaiman Wants To Write More Doctor Who

Neil Gaiman wants to make more Doctor Who.

Author Neil Gaiman admits that he’d love to pen another episode of the hit British sci-fi show, Doctor Who… and hopes he gets the chance to write for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor.

It’s no secret that Neil Gaiman is a bit of a Doctor Who fan. And after penning both The Doctor’s Wife and Nightmare In Silver he’s got a bit of a reputation for coming up with some pretty excellent episodes. But will he get to write for the raving Scottish Doctor?

Doctor Who: Mummy On The Orient Express (Review)

In an interview with The Radio Times, the 53-year-old author admitted that he’d love to get the chance to write another Doctor Who episode. And he hopes to get one in while Capaldi is on board the TARDIS.

“Whenever I’m in the UK… I sneak into meetings with [the production team]. They say, ‘Can you do another one?!’ and I say, ‘Yes! But not yet!’”

Of course, Gaiman is renowned for his rather twisted way of looking at things… and after two highly successful episodes, it’s obvious why Doctor Who would love to have him back. But will he be able to fit in an episode while Peter Capaldi is still the Doctor?

“I’m just sort of hoping that I can get one done while Peter Capaldi is still the Doctor,” he said. “Because it would be a very sad thing if I lost my chance to write for a grumpy, Scottish Doctor.”

Obviously, Gaiman is rather busy at the moment with numerous projects – presumably including the upcoming Sandman adaptation, led by Joseph Gordon Levitt. But what would he write about if given the chance to create another Doctor Who adventure?

Nick Frost To Appear In Doctor Who Christmas Special

“I haven’t done an episode set on Earth yet,” he said, “and I haven’t created a new monster. So there are boxes left to tick. And there’s part of me that feels … I haven’t scared anybody yet. I’d love to do something that sends adults behind the sofa too and makes them wee.”

Known as a master of the macabre, it would be wonderful to see Gaiman tackle a more terrifying subject in Doctor Who. But will he ever get round to it? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

Would you like to see Neil Gaiman return to Doctor Who? What kind of story would you like to see him pen? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
