Neill Blomkamp Was Working On An Alien Sequel?

District 9 director teases work on an Alien sequel.

2nd January 2015 by Ryan Leston

Alien Neill Blomkamp

Although nobody has heard anything about it, Neill Blomkamp was apparently working on a previously unknown Alien sequel. He’s even unveiled some cool concept art.

It’s something Alien fans have been desperate to see for some time – another real Alien sequel to revitalise the franchise. And while Ridley Scott is preoccupied with Prometheus 2 it looks as though a growing sci-fi legend may have been working on a project in secret.

Neill Blomkamp – director of District 9 and Elysium has revealed that he was working on an all-new Alien movie.

Prometheus 2 Will Feature A New Kind Of Alien

Heading to Twitter on a currently unverified account, the South African writer/director revealed his secret project…

“Was working on this,” he said. “Don’t think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph.”

“Woulda rocked,” he added. “Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created.”

The images feature Ripley and her old crewmate, Corporal Dwayne Hicks. The last time we saw him, he had boarded a spaceship on a return to Earth, before entering hypersleep. But he never survived the journey – revealed in Alien 3 to have been killed off screen.

But could Blomkamp’s movie have been an attempt to bring back a fan favourite?

Of course, the last Alien sequel left a lot to be desired… and almost finished off Joss Whedon as Alien Resurrection managed to kill the dreams of an entire generation of sci-fi fans.

But will Neill Blomkamp get the chance to return to this project? Unfortunately, it looks as though it wasn’t exactly official…

“This has nothing to do with the studio,” he explained. “I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work. They didn’t really even know I was working on it.”

I can’t help thinking that the studio would be mad not to give him the green light. He clearly loves the subject matter, and after being so adamant that he would only produce his own films, it must be quite a passion to leap into another writer’s universe.

But could we see Blomkamp return to this project in the future?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but I really hope so.

What do you think of this awesome concept art? Would you want to see Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ movie? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
