Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming Aliens sequel has had to make some changes to avoid clashing with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus 2.
During an interview with Empire Magazine, the young South African director revealed that he’s already been forced to change his movie… in order to avoid clashing with Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel.
“I changed the one thing [Ridley Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit,” Blomkamp said, adding that he already has a title for the film – but it would be a huge spoiler to reveal it. “It’s kinda quite bold, but it gives away too much if I say the title.”
Of course, what changes he made remain a mystery… and for now we’ll have to wait to find out. But while Alien and Prometheus both exist within the same universe, there’s quite a long length of time between them.
And that begs the question – how does Prometheus 2 affect what Neill Blomkamp can do in his upcoming Aliens sequel?
Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait and see… but Blomkamp did clarify his earlier statement about where this movie will fit within the Alien franchise.
And the answer might anger Alien 3 fans.
“Where it went after Aliens to me, as a fan, was wrong,” he added. He also reiterated that his ‘Aliens’ sequel will likely sit after the second film… explaining that it will be “the triplet of the first two.”
Quite what that means for the rest of the franchise remains to be seen. But it sounds as though Blomkamp has some big plans for his film.
“There’s a shitload missing as a fan that I would want to see.”
Unfortunately, we’re still not entirely sure how the new film will affect the rest of the franchise. Although Blomkamp is keen to state that it will follow on from Aliens, does this mean it will overwrite the events of Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection or will it sit neatly in-between them?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see… and in the meantime, I can’t help feeling excited about this new Alien movie.
