A new Alien: Covenant poster is here!
But don’t get too excited – it’s something we’ve seen many, many times before.
The new poster features Daniels (Katherine Waterston) hiding from everyone’s favourite predatory alien… And it gives us another, closer glimpse of the sci-fi xenomorph in action, stalking its prey aboard the Covenant space ship.
Yes, it’s cool… but it’s not exactly original.
Here’s the full poster for you to have a look at:

It’s definitely not a bad one sheet… and it certainly does its job – reminding us that this is part of the Alien franchise, as opposed to a Prometheus sequel. It’s just not particularly subtle – beating us over the head with its Alien pedigree.
It’s got the alien, the plucky female survivor, even the pulse-style rifle.
We get it… it’s an Alien movie.
I just can’t help thinking that it’s not a patch on this earlier poster:

Obviously inspired by HR Giger (as much of the original movie was) it’s an absolutely stunning poster. And while it may not give us a glimpse of what we can expect in the actual movie, it’s far more interesting than a token shot we’ve seen time and time again.
Still, at east the new poster reminds us why we love the Alien franchise in the first place… and it certainly promises to bring the saga back to its survival-horror roots. And let’s face it – taking inspiration from the earlier movies can’t be a bad thing.
Will Alien: Covenant turn out better than Prometheus?
Almost certainly… But will it be as good as the earlier Alien films?
That’s the billion-dollar question… and we’ll have to wait and see.
Alien: Covenant stars Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, James Franco, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Guy Pearce and Noomi Rapace.
Ridley Scott directs, based on a script by John Logan, Jack Paglen, Michael Green , and Dante Harper.
Alien: Covenant heads to cinemas on 19 May 2017.
