It’s official – Batman and Superman will be getting their own solo films… and we should see them hit cinemas by 2020.
It’s been a pretty amazing day for DC fans after an entire slate of new superhero movies were announced, including Justice League, The Flash and even the much-rumoured Aquaman movie. And it looks as though the world’s finest will also be getting their hands dirty with an all-new solo film for both Batman and Superman.
Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara broke the news yesterday during a conference call… which was later followed up by an official press release.
“In a massive expansion of the Studio’s DC Entertainment-branded content, Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema will release a slate of at least 10 movies,” it explained. “As well as stand-alone Batman and Superman films – from 2016 through 2020 that expands this prized universe of characters.”
And the impressive full slate is as follows:
- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
- Suicide Squad (2016)
- Wonder Woman (2017)
- Justice League Part One (2017)
- The Flash (2018)
- Aquaman (2018)
- Shazam (2019)
- Justice League Part Two (2019)
- Cyborg (2020)
- Green Lantern (2020)
Of course, both Batman and Superman will (unsurprisingly) star in Batman V Superman. But after reprising their roles in the upcoming Justice League movies, where exactly will their solo movies fit in?
Although a number of release dates were announced by Warner Bros. recently, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly when the Batman and Superman movies might fit in. In fact, I can’t help thinking that these are likely to be as-yet-unannounced.
But one thing’s for certain – Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill will be donning those iconic suits for some time to come.
