The new Spider-Man might not be the radical reboot we all thought as Marvel’s Joe Quesada teases a classic incarnation.
We’ve all heard the rumours – that Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker will be replaced by an entirely different Spider-Man. Namely, Miles Morales – a young, black teen who takes the mantle of Spider-Man during later comic books.
But it seems that might not happen…
Appearing on Tumblr, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada gave us a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming Spider-Man movie… and his ideas on getting it right.
“The trick to making any incarnation of Spider-Man great, whether comics, animation or film is Peter Parker,” he said when asked about the 2017 Spider-Man film. “Get Peter’s character right and the rest falls into place.”
Of course, some fans had been hoping for a more radical change when it comes to the big screen Spider-Man… and there had been rumours that Miles Morales – a later incarnation of Spider-Man – would appear in his place.
But if you ask me, that was always a bad idea.
For one thing, Peter Parker is known amongst the masses… and while Marvel comic book fans will no doubt know the name of Miles Morales, the general cinema-going audience is another matter entirely.
It seems like a far safer bet to use Peter Parker – the Spider-Man everyone is familiar with – when it comes to the big screen. And let’s face it, with an appearance expected in Captain America: Civil War, it would make every fan’s day to see Peter Parker alongside Iron Man.
But is this how Sony and Marvel will approach this?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see… and while we’re expecting a new Spider-Man in the coming months, we still have no idea who it might be. Sure, Quesada’s comments hint at a far more classic version of Spider-Man. But until it’s confirmed, we’ll just have to keep guessing.
Do you think we’ll get another Peter Parker on the big screen? Who would you like to see on the big screen? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
