It’s official – the latest X-Men: Apocalypse trailer is here.
It looks as though our favourite X-Men are facing their biggest challenge yet, as they prepare to take on the ancient god (and classic comic book villain), Apocalypse. And the new trailer gives us an impressive glimpse at all that carnage.
But will the X-Men ever be the same again?
It’s no secret that X-Men: Apocalypse picks up with a younger Magneto and Professor X… as played by Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy. But while we’ve seen these younger mutants grow into their roles as age-old adversaries, it looks as though we’re finally going to see even more of the classic X-Men team on the big screen.

Cyclops returns, this time played by Tye Sheridan… and it’s not long before the shades come up and he’s blasting down rogue mutants with his impressive eye lasers. But who’s that with the decidedly ‘80s Mohawk? None other than Storm, played by Alexandra Shipp.
Also joining the team are Olivia Munn as Psylocke, Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Ben Hardy as Angel, and Lana Condor as Jubilee.
And the official synopsis gives us an idea of what’s at stake.

“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible.”
“Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto, to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.”
“As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven with the help of Professor X must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
Apocalypse himself will be played by Oscar Isaac, with Tómas Lemarquis as Caliban.
James McAvoy returns as Professor X, with Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
