Marvel has added yet-another Marvel mutant to its cast… with Olivia Munn joining as the telepath, Psylocke.
Appearing on Instagram, X-Men director Bryan Singer has revealed another excellent casting choice – adding Olivia Munn as the classic mutant.
And I can’t help thinking she’s perfect for the role.
Of course, fans of the comic books will know Betsy Braddock as Psylocke – a telepathic mutant who has appeared in various different incarnations throughout the Marvel universe.
Originally, she possessed telepathic powers similar to those of Jean Grey with the cool addition of generating psi-bolts which could incapacitate and even kill her foes. But later versions saw her become a ninja assassin – bolstering her mind-power with some kick-ass fighting skills.
And at one point, she was even able to manifest a telekinetic katana.
But which version will make it to the big screen?
At this stage, we have no idea… but with X-Men: Apocalypse set to star Jean Grey, there has to be enough of a difference between the two in order to justify her being there. And that might just mean some cool psychic weapons and ninja skills.
As for Olivia Munn, she’s perhaps best known amongst comic book movie fans as Chess Roberts from Iron Man 2. But the 34-year-old actress has also appeared in the likes of Magic Mike, Deliver Us From Evil and the critically-panned spy movie, Mortdecai.
But most importantly – she’s a massive geek.
Known for her cosplaying as much as her acting career, Olivia Munn loves all things geeky… and I can’t help thinking that’s really going to pay off when it comes to the character.
Will she make a great Psylocke? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But I think she’s absolutely perfect for the role.
X-Men: Apocalypse heads to cinemas on 19 May 2016.
