It’s official – Paddington 2 is 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
And it’s only the fourth film in history to get it.
We’re only a few weeks into 2018, but it looks as though Paddington 2 is already one of the best reviewed movies of the year. Despite its November 2017 release in the UK, it’s only just been released across the pond in the USA.
The crowds love it, the critics love it, and now Rotten Tomatoes loves it, too.
Paddington 2 currently stands at a 100% Fresh rating with 196 reviews.
That’s 163 critics across the globe who agree the film is great… and not a single one disagrees. At least, for the time being. And that makes it only the fourth film in history to attain a 100% rating with over 100 reviews.
According to /Film, the first film to hold the coveted title was 1999’s Toy Story 2.
“The only other films to have a 100% rating with over 100 reviews are 2008’s Man on Wire (157 reviews) and 2016’s Things to Come (130 reviews).”
Although Lady bird did come close recently, landing a 100% Fresh rating with 163 positive reviews… until a single critic decided to give the film a ‘rotten’ rating, with the intention of derailing its perfect record.
Still, it sounds as though Paddington 2 may hold onto its rating.
And as its been described as a touching, heartfelt family adventure, that’s hardly surprising. But sadly, the film’s critical acclaim has failed to translate into box office earnings, with the film struggling at US theatres. Let’s just hope it continues to impress audiences, and they continue to turn out to see one of the top films of 2018.
