Although Avengers: Age of Ultron finally introduced The Vision, it looks as though actor Paul Bettany won’t be angling for his own solo film.
During an interview with Yahoo! Movies UK, the 43-year-old British actor explained that he will return in an upcoming Marvel movie… but it won’t be a solo film.
“I’m allowed to say the character [Vision] continues,” he explained. But he wouldn’t reveal how many more marvel movies are on his contract. And he really isn’t bothered about getting a solo movie. “I don’t know about [making a solo film],” he added. “That seems like a lot of work!”
Of course, Paul Bettany has been deeply involved with the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the very beginning – providing the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S. from Iron Man onwards.
But now Stark’s A.I. program has been given a body, becoming The Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
And that’s added a rather colossal makeup schedule.
“The face and body [of the Vision] are me,” he explained. “It’s a very long makeup process, like a 3-hour makeup process. It’s uncomfortable and claustrophobic because you can’t hear.”
“But the first day is fine. The second day is… okay. And the third day, you really don’t want to be there. The fourth and the fifth day, you really have to meditate on the line of thousands of actors who would like to be in your position. And you just focus on that and how lucky you are.”
He explained that the distinctive look is achieved by using a one-piece hood which covers his head and shoulders, and is glued in place… and presumably the makeup process begins from there.
But his flowing yellow cape turns out to be 100% CGI.
“It’s uncomfortable,” he added. “But it’s as uncomfortable as getting paid a lot of money to be uncomfortable is.”
Of course, I can’t help wondering when we’ll see the Vision next. Will he make an appearance alongside Tony Stark in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War or will we have to wait until Infinity War to see him again?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is in cinemas across the UK now.
