Rebecca Romijn wants to return to X-Men as Mystique… but could it ever happen?
It’s no secret that the X-Men franchise has come a long way since the original X-Men trilogy. And despite a brief appearance from some classic X-Men in the recent Days of Future Past it looks as though the all-new, younger cast will be leading the charge in future films. But that doesn’t stop Rebecca Romijn from wanting to return…
During an interview with Digital Spy, the 42-year-old actress revealed that she’s “absolutely” willing to return to the role of Mystique in the X-Men franchise.
She also revealed that she “talked a lot” with Jennifer Lawrence – who subsequently appeared as the character in recent X-Men instalments – about the process of applying all that incredible make-up.
“From what I understand, her make-up is very different from the make-up I went through,” she said. “I don’t think she had to go through everything that I went through.”
“It sounds like [she had an easier time],” she added. “Although my theory is that going through nine hours of make-up, you’re in such a rotten mood, you can’t be anything but evil – it turns you into the villain that you need to be to play Mystique properly!”
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time the two Mystiques have swapped notes… and back in 2011, Jennifer Lawrence revealed that she’d taken advice from Romijn in preparation for the role.
“Her advice was mostly just kind of, ‘Don’t worry about it. Don’t listen to what they tell you’,” she explained. “Because they tell you not to drink alcohol or eat spicy food, because they remove the make-up with alcohol. And she just said, ‘Don’t listen to that. It will drive you crazy’.”
But will Romijn ever get the chance to return?
I can’t help thinking there’s still hope. After all, with the time-travelling nature of Days of Future Past they’ve already opened the doors to different time periods. But will Mystique get to feature in a future instalment?
For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
